Dr. John Baynes, a member of the School of Medicine faculty since 1976, recently donated two copies of the fifth edition of Medical Biochemistry to the School of Medicine Library.

The textbook is a collaboration between Baynes and Dr. Marek Dominiczak, professor of clinical chemistry and medical humanities at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and is one of the most widely used textbooks of medical biochemistry internationally.

Several SOM faculty contributed to the text, including Drs. Wayne Carver (CBA) and Norma Frizzell (PPN) and retired faculty members Drs. Margaret Hunt (PMI) and Jeffrey Patton (PMI).

Baynes holds the titles of affiliate professor in the department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Neuroscience and Carolina Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the USC Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
