History of the School of Medicine Subject Guide

The Library is proud to announce the publication of a subject guide entitled, “History of the USC School of Medicine.” As we mark the 50-year milestone of the establishment of the School of Medicine, it is important to acknowledge the school’s history and the people who played a key role in its existence. This guide includes:

• A timeline highlighting decisive events, from the very inception of the “idea” of a new medical school in the 1950s, through the completion of building construction and renovation on the current VA campus in the early 1980s,
• An interactive timeline that allows users to click on specific dates for further information,
• A pictorial history of the Deans of the School of Medicine, and
• Details about the DIGITAL COLLECTION housing many elements from the School of Medicine History archives. Librarians have digitized items such as:
  • Photographs
  • Commencement programs
  • Annual Reports
  • Newsletters
  • Newspaper articles
