M-I Library Orientation Tutorial 2024

Introduction

During this module, you will learn how to search for e-books in AccessMedicine and ClinicalKey. You will also learn how to access print and electronic books using the Library Catalog, Find It @ USC Libraries.

Now read the content and watch the videos in the boxes below.

E-Books

The Library provides access to over 1,300 e-books.

Two advantages to e-books over print books are:

  • E-books are updated more frequently than print textbooks.
  • You can search for keywords within e-books.

AccessMedicine and ClinicalKey are the Library’s best e-book resources because they allow you to search a number of textbooks simultaneously.

AccessMedicine

AccessMedicine provides access to full text medical textbooks, drug information, and multimedia content. After creating a free My AccessMedicine account, you can create custom tests and use interactive flashcards.

ClinicalKey

Library Catalog

You can search Find It @ USC Libraries to find print and e-books, print and e-journals, as well as journal articles. The Reserve collection is located on the first floor on the wall opposite of the elevator.

Watch the video below to learn how to use the Library Catalog search feature of Find It @ USC Libraries. (1 min.)

Circulation - Checking Out Library Materials

After you find the materials you would like to check out, take them to the circulation desk. Tell them your name or show them your ID card.

You can also use the Self-Checkout form on our web site to check out materials after hours.

Renewing Library Materials

There are four ways to renew materials.

  • In person: just have a circulation employee renew your materials for you the next time you’re in the library.
  • By phone: call (803) 216-3200 to speak to the circulation staff.
  • By email: Email your name and the items you have checked out to renew@uscmed.sc.edu.
  • Online - it’s easy to renew your books from anywhere via the library catalog, Find It@USC Libraries!
