Screen reader programs are used by persons with visual or learning difficulties. These programs allow a person to read everything on the screen with or without vision. The following screen readers will need to be downloaded and installed on your individual computer. Students who are only looking for ways to hear an article or a webpage allowed may want to use text readers or web readers.
NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access)
NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) is a free “screen reader” which enables persons who are blind or vision impaired to use computers. It reads the text on the screen in a computerised voice. You can control what is read to you by moving the cursor to the relevant area of text with a mouse or the arrows on your keyboard. NVDA can also convert the text into braille if the computer user owns a device called a “braille display”
