The School of Medicine Library received funds from the South Carolina Legislature for the Be Healthy…Read Healthy project. The goal of the project was to increase access to health information for underserved individuals in rural and urban communities throughout South Carolina. As part of this project, the School of Medicine Library selected consumer health and disability information resources, ten books and one DVD, to distribute to each county library system in the state. Books and videos for Be Healthy…Read Healthy project.
The books and DVDs were boxed and transported to the South Carolina State Library in May 2010 where they were placed in each of the public library’s pick up boxes. Each box included a letter to the public library director which explained the project goals and source of funding. A secondary goal of the Be Healthy…Read Healthy project was to promote the Center for Disability Resources (CDR) Library, so each box included several copies of the Center for Disability Resources Library brochure to help promote this special information resource to South Carolinians.
